a transformation
Rather than making this a replacement blog, this will be for various poetry, probably mostly not my own--with the exception of poetry which requires formatting spacing and thus can't be posted at my other blog or at a_poetry_club at livejournal; my own blog there is under oregonnerd (both are at livejournal, which may not have been totally clear). There is also an entire manuscript of poetry at Roger's page , Voices, which is now closed (pretty much has to be, eh? 8] ).
Thus, this should be spelled out as a poetry blog...but then; perhaps I'm practising to be a politician. Besides, I can throw in the odd presumably witty comment.
Here's the first piece of poetry by someone else: untitled as yet but referred to by both of us as “baby doll”
I sat on the steps
picking at
what light remained frozen
in the diamond cut cracks
of cement
My sister went on
talking about her day
and I became lost
in the translations-
She had preached of God
then turned to a story
of her youngest child Eli-
I sat, enduring moments
without the heart to tell her
I would be leaving
this world behind
She had not noticed
her baby doll had grown up-
But she did see
a calling in me
when the wind rose up and
scared the birds from off their perch
atop the telephone wires-
She turned, her face
wrinkled by motherly years
and said :
"love, you be sure to keep in touch"

The poet herself didn't feel that this was ready for submission/publication. I evidently disagreed. There is a charming 'lack of polish' which upon re-reading turns out to be nothing of the sort; a good example of, perhaps, those occasions when a poet's judgement isn't quite as good as their writing...I mean her feeling of lack of readiness. However, this isn't true publication; this is a showplace for selected poetry, and there will be more. She merely has the distinction of being the first to appear, which is an accident of timing--and of the merit of her poetry. I'll be posting here as I have energy; I actually expect to post one of my own poems here later today, one of the 'poem in three voices' genré that has to have the tag earliest mentioned working.

...hard spaces don't seem to be working today...
